Every person is different. The number of visits depends on your health goals, history, lifestyle, and how your body responds to care. After your evaluation, we’ll discuss recommendations and answer any questions you have.
Our office will gladly explain your payment options and insurance benefits when you contact us. We believe patients should understand their financial options before beginning care. Please call the office at 978.263.9355 so we can thoroughly answer your questions.
No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to see us. Because chiropractors are primary contact providers, you can schedule an appointment directly.
After we have completed a thorough history and exam and gone over the results, you can book a 15-minute session. We aim to run on time, and the maximum amount of time you will be here is 30 minutes.
Absolutely. Many of our patients have experienced different chiropractic techniques in the past and are looking for a gentler approach. We will take time to understand your history and create recommendations based on your current needs.
We care for patients across the lifespan—from newborn babies to adults over 100 years old.
Many patients continue care because they notice improvements in how they sleep, breathe, move, feel, and function. Similar to regular exercise, healthy eating, or dental checkups, ongoing chiropractic care can be part of a healthy lifestyle. Over the years, people who choose wellness care often report noticing improvements in mobility, adaptability, and recovery.
It’s completely understandable to feel nervous. With over 30 years of experience, Dr Pam ensures that your appointment is entirely centered around your needs. We never take skepticism or hesitation personally. Many patients have later told us, ‘I wish I had done this a long time ago!’ Dr. Pam has dedicated her career to mastering a variety of techniques, allowing her to tailor her approach to your specific system and comfort level. Whether you prefer traditional adjustments or require a low-force approach,Dr Pam specializes in discerning exactly what your body needs. Many patients arrive hesitant, fearing forceful twisting or cracking, but we take the time to explain every step, answer your questions, and ensure you feel completely comfortable before proceeding. Most patients never experience any pops and rather enjoy the amount of pressure you would put on your eyeball. This specific and gentle pressure unwinds the tension in the neural system and allows people to breathe deeply, sleep better, have more range of motion, and function better. We have safely cared for a wide range of patients, from newborns to individuals over 100, including those with complex conditions like spinal rods, ALS, MS, CP, and osteoporosis. Our goal is to provide a safe, gentle, and informed experience tailored to you.
At Community Chiropractic by the Sea, we thoroughly examine your history and spinal integrity and use a gentle approach to chiropractic care that focuses on helping your body function at its best. Many people are surprised to learn that effective adjustments do not require twisting, cracking, or forceful movements. Our care is designed to be comfortable for people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. We also offer traditional care when it is appropriate.
Most patients find our adjustments remarkably gentle and relaxing. The majority receive a light-touch technique that requires minimal pressure. While we also offer traditional care for those who prefer it, many patients are pleasantly surprised by how subtle yet effective our primary approach is.

During your consultation, we’ll discuss your specific concerns and determine whether chiropractic care may be a good fit for your goals.
No. Many patients choose chiropractic care because they want to function better, move more comfortably, and support their long-term health. Just as people exercise or eat well to stay healthy, chiropractic care can be part of a proactive wellness lifestyle.
Yes. We care for children of all ages, including infants. Adjustments for children are very gentle and specifically adapted to their age, size, and developmental needs.
Many pregnant women seek chiropractic care to help support comfort, mobility, and overall well-being throughout pregnancy. Care is always modified to accommodate the changing needs of both mother and baby. Our care is highly trained, very specific, and offers mothers comfort as well as increased pelvic stability.
Can chiropractic help with headaches, sciatica, or disc herniations?
Yes. Patients have reported great relief from these thisfs. Each case is individual and requires — these are among the most common conditions we treat with strong clinical results. Tension and cervicogenic headaches respond well to cervical adjustments and soft tissue work. Sciatica caused by joint dysfunction or mild disc involvement often improves significantly with chiropractic care. Disc herniations are evaluated case by case — many respond well, some require co-management or referral.
What’s the difference between an adjustment and massage?
Massage targets muscles — it reduces tension, improves circulation, and relieves soft tissue tightness. An adjustment targets joints — it restores proper motion, reduces nerve irritation, and corrects structural dysfunction. They work well together. Massage relaxes the muscles around a joint; the adjustment corrects the joint itself.
What will I feel after an adjustment?
The majority of the time, people feel very relaxed after an adjustment. They feel loser, lighter, and have more range of motion. They often report changes in parasympathetic activity: more relaxed, easier to breathe, better sleep, better digestion. It surprised them how gentle but effective it is.
Some people do not feel anything after an adjustment. The body is processing internal improvements, such as improved nerve communication and nervous system function, which you cannot always feel on the outside. Some people notice a change 24 to 48 hours later.
Some people feel more after an adjustment. The nervous system and all the surrounding tissues are changing, and the patterns of compensation are challenged. We liken this to putting braces on the teeth.
In our office, Dr Pam does a very thorough examination first. Once the areas of blockage are determined, she applies a gentle pressure about the amount of pressure you use when “testing” a tomato in the store. It is gentle and relaxing almost instantly because of its specificity. It is typically painless and often described as feeling like an unwinding of tension. If a structural adjustment is needed, most clients experience a “release” of built-up pressure, or the sensation of cracking their knuckles. You may hear a popping sound, which is just gas escaping the joint.
“Cracking the neck” or a structural adjustment is a very specific force into the nervous system to take pressure off the brain stem, but many clients do not need nor is it appropriate to receive. Please talk to your chiropractor about your spinal and emotional needs, and a tailored approach can be made that allows for very gentle pressure.
There is no cookie-cutter answer. Recommendations are based upon your history, how long the problem has been going on, how severe it is, your current lifestyle, and your innate healing ability.
Yes, for its core applications. Spinal manipulation for low back pain, neck pain, and headaches has substantial support in peer-reviewed literature and is recommended in clinical guidelines from organizations including the American College of Physicians. Like all healthcare, the evidence is stronger for some conditions than others. We don’t oversell what the research doesn’t support.
In rare cases, yes — which is why examination before treatment matters. Adjusting someone with an undiagnosed fracture, severe osteoporosis, or certain vascular conditions would be inappropriate. This is exactly why we screen thoroughly before touching anyone. A chiropractor who skips the exam and goes straight to adjusting is a red flag.
Historically, there was significant professional tension between medicine and chiropractic — some of it legitimate, some of it turf-based. Today, many physicians do refer to chiropractors, particularly for musculoskeletal cases where medication isn’t the ideal first line. If a doctor dismisses chiropractic entirely without clinical reasoning, that’s bias, not evidence. If they have specific concerns about your case, that’s worth a real conversation.
